Cards 2-003Today I am excited to share with you a technique that is all the rage right now in the crafting world.  What is it you ask?!  Well, I call it the Chalkboard Technique.  This is such an easy technique and you are going to love the simplicity!  I have a brief tutorial for you on how to get this look on your cards, so let’s get going!

The first thing you will need to do is stamp your saying or image onto a piece of Basic Black card stock using your Versamark Ink.  Then you will emboss this with White Embossing Powder.

IMG_8821   Once you have embossed your image you need to get out your White Craft Ink Pad and a sponge dauber.  To get the effect of chalk dust on your paper you just pick up and rub the White Craft Ink on your Basic Black image.  I just sponged on random areas, where ever it looked good to me.  I did find it best to rub in a circular motion.  You can even take your finger and rub it in a little more.

IMG_8832Now you need to go digging in your art drawer for that white colored pencil that hasn’t been used in who knows how long and doodle!  I did some simple doodling around the outside edge of the image.  The different shades of white on the black card stock really make it look realistic!  So doodle away!  Don’t be afraid to add a few flourishes or anything that comes to you!  I wanted mine to look simple so I stayed with the outline.

cards-004Add your embellishments and you are done!  Do you notice a few new products on my card?  I used a brand new Needlepoint Border Textured Impressions Embossing Folders to add some detail to the edge.  I also used a sneak peek of the Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper that is going to be FREE to you when you place a $50 order during Sale-A-Bration (starting on January 22nd).  You are going to love the Sale-A-Bration products this year!  If you would like a Sale-A-Bration or Spring Mini Catalog e-mail me your address and I’ll get one out to you right away!

I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial on how to do the Chalkboard Technique!  Go grab your white colored pencil and get to work!

Be Creative, Kristin
